Pony Club

Pony Club

Bunbury Horse and Pony Club Inc. hosts a PCAWA affiliated Pony Club.  Membership is open for young riders aged 5-25 years.

Our club encourages participation from new and inexperienced riders through to high achievers.  We have a high quality coaching program based on the PCAWA syllabus and are especially proud of our Associates (aged 17-25 years) who volunteer as team managers, coaches and event organisers.  Long standing members include riders who are successful in range of disciplines, and who develop strong horse management and citizenship skills.

Pony club membership is a fantastic way for young riders to build relationships with other people with similar interests.  Because of the age ranges and joint focus riders have access to excellent role models and the ability to develop mentoring skills.

Rallies run monthly from February to October, with special rallies scheduled from time to time to enable a focus on special interests.  We enter teams in most State and Zone competitions, and you will see our riders at a wide range of PCAWA and EAWA sponsored events around the state.

The aims and objectives of Pony Club are:

  • To encourage young people to ride and to learn to enjoy all approved kinds of sport connected with horses and riding

  • To provide instruction in riding and horsemastership and to instill in members the proper care of their animals

  • To promote the highest ideals of fellowship, citizenship and loyalty, and to cultivate strength of character and self-discipline

Joining Pony Club

Memberships are from February to February, with renewals usually offered in December and new memberships in January.  Expressions of interest are welcome throughout the year, with late joining available at a discount.

Fees are set annually to cover PCAWA fees, contribution to grounds maintenance and coaching fees.  In 2016, the fee was $250 for riders, and $40 for adult supporters (required for riders <18 years).  Families with financial constraints are welcome to contact us for a range of payment options.  Under the terms of our insurance, we can also offer up to 2 rallies under a “day member” scheme, which means you can try out the club without paying the full membership fees. In 2018 we are hoping to offer special terms for those families who have more than one riding member within the club.

Our club is powered by volunteers.  As such we value families who are highly engaged with our club.  It is expected that all families will help out at rallies and contribute a minimum number of hours to our fund raising gymkhanas and busy bees.  As families develop in experience, it is expected they will become more involved in club management and join the Committee.

Please see see the Bunbury Horse and Pony Club Handbook for information about how the club runs and the PCAWA website for details on the broader benefits of membership, including 24×7 insurance for riders.

Under the terms of our constitution, and to prevent oversubscription, all expressions of interest in membership must be referred to the Committee for approval.
